Lee Chae Rin (born February 26, 1991), professionally known as CL, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and rapper born in Seoul, South Korea. Much of her early life she spent abroad in France and Japan. CL was the leader of the girl group 2NE1, formerly signed under YG Entertainment.
After appearing as a featuring artists on various songs, CL debuted as a solo artist in May 2013 with the single "The Baddest Female" followed by her english language debut "Lifted" on August 19, 2016.

Chae Rin was born as the first daugther to her parents on February 26, 1991 in Seoul, South Korea. Her father is Professor Lee Ki Jin, an author and physics professor in South Korea.
She spent most of her childhood abroad in Paris, Tsubaka Science City and Tokio. At the age of 13, CL moved to Paris on her own to study there for two years. Following her studies in France, she got an audition invitaion from YG Entertainment at the age of 15.[1]
In 2007, CL made her first public appearance on stage at the SBS Gayo Daejun together with her fellow labelmates BIGBANG, 1TYM, Se7en and Jinusean. Her first official feature was credited on Um Jung Hwas 2008 mini album "D.I.S.C.O" on the song "DJ".[2]
